By faculty track

Summary of responses
Perceptions of respectful treatment by students and trainees are strongest in YSM instructional faculty and ladder faculty, and lowest in YSM research faculty.

YSM instructional faculty respondents report more experiences of feeling threatened or insulted than instructional faculty inside their department/section.

By gender

Summary of responses
Non-binary/transgender/rather not say/self-identified YSM faculty respondents report the lowest amount of respectful treatment by students and trainees, and male FAS faculty the highest.

Non-binary/transgender/rather not say/self-identified and female YSM faculty respondents report higher frequencies of threats and insults than male YSM faculty. They report experiencing more of this within the Yale community outside their department/section.

Note: Categories are not mutually exclusive, as survey respondents were asked to select all answers that apply. To maintain confidentiality for categories with small response sizes, “Non-binary”, “Transgender”, “Rather not say”, and self-identified open-response gender identities have been grouped together. If any group contains fewer than 5 respondents, all response counts are rounded to the nearest 5 to prevent inference of specific group sizes.

By underrepresented minority (URM) status

Summary of responses
YSM faculty respondents report similar experiences of respectful treatment by students and trainees across URM categories.

URM YSM faculty respondents report higher frequencies of threats and insults in and out of their department/section.

Note: URM stands for “underrepresented minority.” See our Data Definitions page for more information.
